BARBOS 1ST XV DEFEAT BOULDER 47-17
The Denver Barbarians 1st XV soundly defeated Boulder RFC by a score of 47-17. The massive road victory marked the 3rd straight win against Boulder since dropping the season opener to them last fall season. The clash was an intense hit out, with the men in Green & White eventually putting the Boulder side away with brains and brawn. The below photos were taken by Suzi Seitz (check out her website!), and reflect the physical nature of the match.
Boulder opened up the scoring and held a 5-0 lead, but the men in Green & White quickly bounced back with a try through rookie sensation Gus Sokol. Liam Wynne converted and the Barbos took the lead 7-5. They would not relinquish that lead for the rest of the day.
The men in Green & White tacked on 7 total tries on a glorious afternoon in Pleasant View Park. Although Boulder scored 3 tries, they failed to handle the Barbos pressure defense and struggled to retain possession at times. Eric Sykes and Luca Tani were a physical presence throughout the match.
After training on the turf twice a week, the men in Green & White were happy and eager for a scrap on natural grass. Their attack began to click after tries from Conor O’Brien, Eric Sykes, Landan Banks & Kaleb Boleyn. A final try by Tyler Grant put the nail in the coffin, and the Barbos brought their total to 47 points on the afternoon.
Boulder RFC fielded a much improved team from the 80-15 week 1 result. They showed they were capable of matching the physicality of the forward pack, but it was not their day in attack. Boulder will look to finish the season ahead of the Denver WaterDawgs in the Rocky Mountain Premiership.
The Barbos will look to continue their winning ways with a final game against the Denver Water Dawgs.
