MEET NICK JOHNSON

Every team needs a crafty veteran. Nick “Johnno” Johnson is exactly that. Although being a new guy to the Barbos this summer, he’s a long way from being a new guy to rugby— and has slotted in seamlessly with the club by providing handy play on the field, and great banter off of it.

He’s played so much rugby, there isn’t much he hasn’t already seen. His professional rugby career features shifts with the Austin Gilgronis and Glendale Raptors in the MLR as well as the Loggerheads of PR 7’s. His burly thick chest can be found barreling into the gain line as defenders do their best to soften the impact of his mighty blows. Then, after dragging bodies over the try-line before dotting down, he’ll twinkle his boots back 20m and slot the penalty with the finesse previously only seen in ballet shoes.

In a summer featuring fierce internal competition, he threw his hand up and quickly became a vocal leader. One of Nic’s best skills is keeping strong chat throughout a 14 minute game. When the ball’s in play, you’ll hear him directing traffic and sorting out who should be where.
