DENVER BARBARIANS THRASH BOULDER - FINAL SCORE: 83-26
After suffering a humbling defeat to Boulder RFC to open the 2021 fall XV’s season, the BarboFam circled November 6th in what would be the much sought after rematch. Seasons, fortunes and even fates can change in the blink of an eye. Was the 31-17 defeat on August 28th truly the moment of self reflection that launched this successful run in the late fall? Perhaps … it’s also possible that change can ALSO come slowly. It can permeate within a team like water breaking down stone. Slowly, but surely.

By the time this fateful November 6th rematch arrived, the men in Green & White were ready to show they had cemented the change needed to capture the Rocky Mountain Premiership. Under the magnificent Colorado sun, the Denver Barbarians were successful on the day, dismantling Boulder from start to finish. On November 6th, Alex Wormer and the footy became ONE!
Alex Wormer (pictured above) was the man of the match. The Evergreen CO native, rugby phenom by day - engineering wizard by night, was sensational all day in just about every aspect of the game. His high work rate allowed him to shine in defense, ruck work, the lineout in addition to his open play fundamentals. To top things off, Alex Wormer (who played at openside flanker) cleared a 50M kick from the Denver Barbarian goal line after a turnover.
Coach Brian Erichsen spoke about what part of Alex’s game impressed him ….
“The razzle dazzle shit is nice when it works, but Alex’s grunt work in the pack was unmatched by anyone on the day. His commitment to getting around the pitch and finding work is impressive.”
Jason “Tubbs” Christensen is always good for some hard yards … (yeah I know it’s meters on the rugby pitch, but hard yards just sounds tougher.)
The Barbos strong club numbers enabled other teams to take the pitch and gain valuable game time.
“Who’s that tall guy in the back?”
In the end, the cards (red and yellow alike) didn’t play much a factor in the score line. The Barbos were clinical when they needed to be and scored many tries throughout the day.
